Therefore the Lord, the God of Israel, declares: ‘I promised that your house and the house of your father should go in and out before me forever,’ but now the Lord declares: ‘Far be it from me, for those who honour Me I will honour, and those who despise me shall be lightly esteemed. [1 Samuel 2:30 ESV].
The Word “Honour” means to show respect to or towards, or to give recognition or esteem to another. Having reverential fear towards God is honouring Him. Honour is the topmost important primary priority and principle that God deserves and needs first from us. Without honouring and acknowledging Him as God, all other acts to Him are in vain.
God instructs us through His Word to give honour. We honour God by doing what He has asked us to do. Not to do God’s Word is dishonouring Him. The Christian life is all about honouring God directly in our worship, but also indirectly through honouring the authorities which the Lord had instructed in His word. When you show honour to God, there is a commanded blessing that is released back into your own life. When you keep honouring God, the right people will find you, and the right opportunities will come across your path. When you honour God, you become a magnet for His goodness. Moreover, If you want God to honour you and bless you in any area of your life, you have to honour Him in that particular area; If you want God to bless you in your finances, you have to honour Him with your finances.
Furthermore, just saying that you honour God isn’t enough. As a Christian, your honour should be seen in your words and actions, it entails everything that concerns you. You should honour God with your time, with your talents, with your body, with your treasure; Jesus said in Matthew 6:21, “where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”. Most importantly, you should honour God with your heart.
When you set out to obey and do God’s Word, you are indirectly saying that you trust what God has said, that you trust His word and that you are putting His word above everything else in your life. Now, what better way to show honour than giving preference to the Word of God first. Study the Word daily, and let it rule and have dominion over you, that way, you will know and observe to do according to all that is written in it, thereby, giving honour to God. SHALOM
