For You created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. [Psalms 139: 13-14 NIV].
To be enough is to have a sufficiency; a quantity of a thing which satisfies desire, or is adequate to the wants. Our opening scripture says, “you’re fearfully and wonderfully made,” meaning you’re a creation of wonder and not a clone. It shows how much God has invested within your spirit, because you’re a peculiar treasure of inestimable value to Him.
It is easy to go through life thinking that we’re lacking in some area: if we had more talent then we could do something great. If only we had a better personality, if we were more confident, more attractive, then we could reach our dreams. But as long as you’re discounting yourself, thinking you’re at a disadvantage, it’s going to keep you from rising higher. When God laid out the plan for your life, He thought about what you would need and what it would take to get you there, then He matched you with your world. He gave you the talent you need, the creativity, the strength, the right size, the right personality, and even the right family. You didn’t get short-changed, you’re not at a deficit, you are good enough, you are talented enough, you are attractive enough, you have been fearfully and wonderfully made.
If you don’t realize that you are enough, then you’ll always be dependent on other people to make you feel good about yourself. But when you know you are enough by God’s standard, you don’t rely on people to approve you, you get your approval from your Heavenly Father.
David made no mistake when he said in Psalm 23:1, “The Lord is my shepherd, I have everything I need”. This was him saying that with God I am enough. Be like David today, when the circumstances around you and the people around you try to make you discount yourself, remember who you are and to Whom you belong. Remember that because the Lord is your shepherd, you have everything you need, you are just enough. SHALOM!
