“But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.” [II Corinthians 9:6 NKJV]
Whatever you sow and the worth of your seed determines your harvest. The word ‘sparingly’ used in the above scripture means ‘in a restricted or infrequent manner’; ‘in small quantities.’ In the context of the scripture, how much you sow does not literally mean in quantity but rather in worth. In the book of 2 Samuel 24, is the story of David when He received an instruction from God to build an altar on the threshing floor owned by Araunah, a Jebusite. As king, he has the authority to take over any land at his will, even though Aruanah also wanted to give him the land for free. He said ”I will never give unto God what cost me nothing”. He bought the land and built the altar. Then, God took away the plaque that inflicted Israel. The widow identified in the scripture was not because of how much she sowed whereas she even gave the least in number. But she was recognized because of the worth of her offering as she gave all that she has. God is not interested in the size or quantity but in the worth.
Therefore, no matter your financial status there’s always something to give. We must also recognize that financial giving is one of the ways we sow in the kingdom and not the only way. Your time, your energy, your consistency, faithfulness to service is also an act of giving to God How are you sowing your seed? It might not be open to man but God that sees all and knows all thing takes record. What kind of harvest are you preparing for? A sparing or bountiful harvest? Then start sowing seeds in line with your desire.
Lastly, as believers, we must come to the place of total submission whereby nothing will be too big to give God, whether money or anything He desires. This is the kind of worship that He desires from us. Remember, God is not unjust to forget your labour of love (Hebrew 6:10). SHALOM.
Confession
Father, Help me to love You with all that I am and all that I have. I receive grace to sow towards the course of Your kingdom as You desire. As I give, it is given to me, good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over. I do not sow sparingly and grudgingly, but rather, I sow generously, blessing others. Amen
