A HEART OF SERVICE
The principle of service is firmly established in the Bible's teachings. The Bible highlights the value of prioritizing service. Service is not due only to people in places of power or leadership; it is an invitation for everyone to serve others. The sacrifice of Jesus Christ demonstrates a heart of service. Mark 10:45 says: ‘’For even the son of man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life a ransom to many’’. Service is characterized by humility and a heart that actively looks out for the interest of others.
Service is a fundamental bond that links us to one another in love. It is one of the most important ways by which we may foster excellence amongst each other. One of the most renowned examples of service in the Bible is found in John 13:1-17, where Jesus washes His disciples' feet. This act of service was remarkable as it was an act usually performed by a servant and not a host or master. By washing His followers' feet, Jesus emphasized that true leadership is about helping others rather than serving oneself.
Essentially, God calls us to a life of humility, obedience and service. Galatians 5:14 says: “For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: 'Love your neighbor as yourself'.” To fulfil God's purpose, we must remember that service unto others is service unto God and a heart that cannot love others does not love God. Serving humbly and selflessly are crucial, as it develops our own spiritual walk while also fostering harmony in our domains of influence. SHALOM!
