GO ABOUT DOING GOOD
Doing good remains one of the important commandments which were highlighted in the books of Matthew, Mark and Luke. The Bible is filled with teachings about doing good, and one of such examples is found in the book of Galatians 6:9 where the Apostle Paul writes: “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart”. This suggests that doing good is not always easy; however, it is critical to do good deeds with kindness and cheerfulness.
Doing good should not be transactional: it is not something we do halfheartedly in order to earn praise. Jesus went around doing good: He healed the sick, restored sight to the blind, made the lame walk, fed the hungry, and at the end He was crucified for our sake. Even while He died on the cross, He was still compassionate. Christ is our perfect example. A good deed may not always be recognized; however, Jesus taught us to do good not for reward, but because it is the right thing to do and we have a Father who rewards. We are encouraged to live a life of service and compassion for others in (Matt 5:43-47).
Practicing service is a necessary component of leading a meaningful, fulfilled life. We are instructed to love our neighbors as ourselves and love our enemies just as much. Whether it is through acts of kindness, caring for those who are less fortunate, or just treating others with respect and compassion—we are to do good without expectations, because therein lies our reward. SHALOM!
CONFESSION
Dear Father, thank You for the wisdom and grace to do the right thing. Help me to understand that You are the rewarder of all good deeds. May I always love and serve others with the compassion of Jesus Christ, in Jesus' Name. Amen.
